Firstly, we are sorry for your loss. Please note that only the designated beneficiaries of a life insurance policy can file a death claim. These beneficiaries are the individuals or entities named by the policyholder to receive the death benefit upon the policyholder’s passing.
How do I contact MassMutual to notify them of a death?
Notify MassMutual of the death either online or by phone. You’ll need to provide the policy number or the deceased’s Social Security number, as well as the deceased’s information (name, date of death) and contact information for the beneficiary.
What documents do I need to gather?
You’ll need an original certified copy of the death certificate, policy number and the deceased’s Social Security number. MassMutual may request identification proof and other documents.
How do I submit the claim?
Complete and submit the claim forms provided by MassMutual, along with the necessary supporting documents. MassMutual will review the claim and supporting documents to verify the claim’s validity.
What happens during claim processing?
MassMutual will notify you by mail or email if any additional information is needed. Once all requirements are met, the claim will be processed. You can track claims online through the MassMutual Ascend portal.
How do I receive the payout after the claim is approved?
After the claim is approved, the beneficiary can choose their preferred payout method.
